{❄} He seemed surprised, which seemed odd to the older man. Was it possible that no one had ever told him that before? That seemed odd, regarding how impressive all this was. Nineteen? Shit, he has taken some risks on some young artists before but this was on a whole other level- this wasn’t even a risk, it was a sure investment. That is, if the kid and his mates could contain themselves.

“Why do you look so surprised?”

Kyn picked up the folder again, leafing through the papers absently.
“This is some really impressive writing, here-” He paused, “Especially for a kid just out of high school.” He crossed his arms, “I just had some questions about the meanings of some things- want to keep the label’s image how it should be, you know?” He seemed almost casual, speaking as if Shuichi was on the same level as him. “Wouldn’t want to be putting out the wrong stuff, but also- just…honestly curious.”

"I…” Shuichi swung his feet. The arm chair was tall enough that the soles of his shoes barely brushed the hardwood floor beneath. He was beginning to feel smaller and smaller, his cheeks burning. “I don’t know. I’m just not used to good feedback, I suppose.” It was quite the opposite actually. He almost didn’t believe that Kyn was being genuine with him. 

He watched in polite silence as the older man thumbed through his lyrics, hands in his lap and tongue tucked into his cheek thoughtfully. Impressive writing? He’d never thought anyone would use that phrase to describe it. “Questions?” He asked, eyes still on the producer. “Yeah, sure. I’ll answer your questions as best as I can.”
